Skills Institute
Skills Institute - Skills for Life Student Support
Program Background
The Skills for Life model is aimed at all trainees and apprentices irrespective of industry background. The model provides life skills development, personal counselling, disability support, advisory/referral services, financial advice / support and career pathway counselling to apprentices, spanning individuals 15 years of age to mature age apprentices. The model involves an enhanced induction program for apprentices that includes a major component of life skills education and support, a mentor/coaching program for workplace supervisors to provide them with skills to assist trainees and apprentices through effective communication strategies; and a mentoring/coaching program for Skills Institute Trainers and Assessors who work with apprentices and trainees to enhance communication and focus on life skills development. The program will support apprentices from their first day of training through to completion of their apprenticeship.
